Description: Dan Morrison was invited by Reema Nanavaty of the Self Employed Women's Association (SEWA) to visit Gujarat, India in December, 2006. During his travels around the Gujarati rural villages, he heard numerous stories about villages in need of critical life sustaining infrastructure - wells, toilets, childcare center, etc. The villages have a plan, they knew their priorities, but they lacked the resources to complete the projects that would provide for their basic human needs. Villagers in Vachharajpur, in particular, were forced to walk 5 hours a day to fetch clean drinking water. They had chosen a site for their own well, but needed $5,000 to begin construction. Inspired by this community, Dan sought to raise $5,000 to provide Vachharajpur with clean drinking water. Through a holiday card campaign, Dan raised the capital need for the well construction from family and friends, and sent the funds to SEWA to facilitate the completion of the project. Not only does the village now have clean drinking water, but the village women now have time to engage in income producing activities to help bring their families out of poverty. After the success of this first project, Dan created 1Well, an entrepreneurial organization that allows people to make social investments in high need areas of the world that have a direct and significant impact on the lives of others. This video was filmed after Dan's March 2008 visit to India where he met with the women of SEWA to begin their partnership.
